3 Hayes Street

The house at 3 Hayes Street is a single-storey timber and iron bungalow house constructed during the Federation period. The house was likely built around 1910. Hayes Street is named after the Hayes family as in 1931, many of the lots were part of William Hayes’ estate, who purchased the land in 1897. William was born in Bunbury in 1861 and died in 1930 (reference). Hayes Street was originally known as Eileen Street.

In 1941 the house was owned by Pietro Deoddto Tacheri and occupied by John Hurst. Pietro was born at Savoniero, Moderna in Italy and moved to Australia in 1927 (reference). In 1932 he announced in the West Australian that he was applying for Australian citizenship (reference). In 1944 Pietro was fined for overcharging on apples (reference).

Albert Morris was the owner and occupier in 1951. In 1952 Albert posted a lost notice in the Harvey Murray times as his pet dog had gone missing (reference).
