SMITH, Maurice Brett

Maurice was born in Ireland and is buried in Australind. He arrived on 02/01/1840 on the ship Westmoreland. On 25/12/1872, Maurice married Anna Maria Elizabeth Clarke ( 27/07/1844-30/08/1927) in Bunbury. She was the daughter of Ephraim and Sarah. Maurice and Anna's children were Anna Maria Sophia (1874-), Priscilla Eliza Frances (1876-), Louisa (1877-), Clara Ruth (1879-), Agnes Adeline (1880-), Kathleen Norah (1882-), Caroline Beatrice (1886-) and Maurice Brett Clarke (1889-). Maurice was employed as a tutor by Marshall Cufton. He bought 160 acres of land in the Harvey district in 1844, was a sheep farmer at "Giginup" extending to "Uduc" by 1854 with large pastoral leases. He employed forty-three ticket of leave men on occasions from 1864-1878, including five cooks and a herdsman. His widow managed "Uduc" with the assistance of her brothers.

George and Rachel's child was Henry Clifton (1852-1852). All three are buried at Australind. George was a settler at Australind in association with Duncan and John McKenzie.

He is the son of Patrick and Rose Hanlon. Patrick married Mary Flynn (1866-), who was the daughter of Henry Stanes and Mary. Patrick and Mary's children were Flossie, Cecil, Joe, Teresa, George and Dan. Patrick lived in Ferguson and Bunbury.
SLATOR, Thomas
He was a Captain in the 96th Regiment. Thomas was stationed in Western Australia from 1847-1849. He was at Bunbury in 1847, and he went absent without leave.
