Longest Telegraph Transmission
The Southern Times, November 24 1890, reported that “an unprecedented feat in local telegraphy was effectually and expeditiously accomplished” at the Bunbury Telegraph Office when the postmaster, Mr Edward Woodrow, and his assistant wired John Forrest's speech to the electors of Bunbury. The message comprised 17,240 words and “occupied in transmission from 3.45pm to 2.15am and it is said to be the longest message ever sent over the lines of this colony”.
