John was born in Yorkshire. John arrived in 1837 on the Britomart. He married in Perth on 17/05/1840 to Elizabeth Dicey (1820-, died at 92 yrs). Elizabeth arrived on 30/10/1835 on the Giraffe. Their children were Richard (1841-1911), Kary Anne (1843-1929), George Henry (1846-), Emma (1848-1848), John Charlton (1849-), Christina (1851-1934), Charles Kitching (1853-1923), Robert (1856-), William (baptised, 1864), Hannah Elizabeth (-1862) and James Forrest. At Swan River he was employed by Mrs Pace at Fremantle in 1837. He moved to Australind in 1843, Bunbury in 1846 and was a farmer at Vasse in 1848 at "Belvedere", "Roelands", Dardanup and Ferguson. Finally, he worked as a farmer and pastoralist at "Preston Park" in Donnybrook in the 1860s to the 1870s. He employed three ticket of leave men between 1864 and 1871, including a carpenter in 1866.
