GIBLETT, John

(1809-13/07/1882)

John was born in England and died in Balbarrup. He was the son of James and Sarah. John arrived in Western Australia on 20/08/1842 aboard the Simon Taylor, with his wife Ann (1818-12/07/1896). Ann was born in England and died in Balbarrup. She is the daughter of John. John and Ann married on 22/03/1842 in England. Their children were Thomas (1842-1897), Jemina (1843-), who was born in Burrswood, Emma (1844-), John (1845-1845), John (1846-1862), Jesse (1848-), Elba (1851-1909), George (1853-), Helen (1855-1946) and Amos Wells (1862-). John was an agricultural labourer, first at Burrswood, then Canning, Serpentine and Harvey. He was a farmer and grazier at "Balbarrup," Manjimup. He owned 80 acres in 1868 in the Nelson district. John held Nelson lot 31 and 32 and extensive pastoral leases in partnership with his family. The Post Office at his home in 1864 was known as Blackwood P.O. until 1870. Travelled monthly from Bunbury. He employed eight ticket of leave men from 1851-1871.

In
