GORMAN, James

(1819-24/12/1882). James died in Albany. He arrived in Western Australia 07/02/1853 aboard the Dudbrook as an Enrolled Pensioner Guard with his wife Ellen (1823-). Their children were Karella (1850-1863), Lawrence (1852-), who was born in Ireland, James (1855-), who was born in Bunbury, Ellen (1856/7-), who was born in Fremantle, Rose Anna (1857-), Christopher (1861-), Elba (1863-) who was born in Fremantle, Peter (1864-) who was born in Perth, Edward Thomas (1865-), Nat John (1867-), Matthew, (1868) and Ellen (1869-). James was formerly a Corporal in the 13th Regiment. He served 12 years and won 3 medals for his service in India. He then went on to serve 26 years in Convict service W.A. and as a Policeman. Williams son James was Innkeeper at the staging post "Chorkerup" 15 miles north of Albany. He employed two ticket of leave men from 1871-1872 in Albany.
