HESTER, Godfrey William

Godfrey was born in Bunbury and died in Bridgetown. He was the son of Edward Godfrey and Theodosia Sophia. He married on 17/07/1889 at Guildford to Mary Evangeline Sweeting (22/1/1856-8/2/1945). Mary was the daughter of Reverend George Hallett and Ellen. Their children were Haud Gladys (1892-), Lancelot Hastings (1893-1916), who died in World War I in France, Erica Mary (1895-1978), William Edward Evelyn Sweeting (1897-1977), Reginald George Sweeting (1900-), Godfrey Harold Sweeting (1902-) and Theodosia Sophia (1903-). Godfrey was the manager of Winnejup Station for J.F.T. Hassell in 1878. In 1880 to North West Mulga Downs", forced by drought to sellout. Godfrey was a Farmer at Bridgetown, leasing "Jayes" (Lee Steere's property) until 1895. He then moved to Claremont, as Higham, Hester and Co. Residence, "Dalgarup Hall''. He returned to his own property in Bridgetown. He was a Justice of Peace in 1898 and a Member of Nelson Road Board and Bridgetown Agricultural Society, and also President of the Greenbushes Agricultural Society. He was educated at home. He was a member of the Church of England.
