James was born in Bunbury. He was son of Thomas and Mary arrived on 23/05/1844 with his brother Benjamin. Married Johanna Simons (Simmonds) (1819-11/07/1887) in Australind on 01/01/1852. She arrived on 27/07/1850. Children were William James (1856-1930), Joseph Eynr Thomas Shatre, John died at 20 yrs, Elizabeth. James was a Bunbury Farmer, later became a tanner and shoemaker. He was a tenant, then owner of Ditchingham, a farm in Brunswick River formerly owned by Dr Bedingfieldied. Employed nine ticket of leave men on occasions from 1864 to 1874. He was a member of The Congressional church.
