He was born in Bunbury as the son of William and Hannah. In 1901, Llewellyn married Mary Olen Johnson. Mary was the daughter of George of Bunbury. He joined the staff of Dalgety and Co at Fremantle in 1893. He moved to Bunbury in 1896 to open his own business and agency of Dalgety's until 1907, when he moved to Northam, buying "lima" farm. He was a member of the local Agricultural Society and Western Australia Turf Club. He was educated at a Government school in Bunbury and Briggs' Academy, Fremantle.
