He was born in Bunbury and employed a ticket of leave labourer in 1863. According to the Almanack, he was a Government School Teacher from 1884 to 1889 in Perth. His wife was a dressmaker in Perth from 1884 to 1889. In Perth, he employed seven ticket of leave bootmakers and shoemakers on occasions from 1866 to 1873.
