James married Julie. He remarried on 28/6/1869 to Hannah Burnham Mason (1841-12/01/1877), the widow of Henry. Hannah was the daughter of Samuel Burnham Bryan and his wife, Anne. Their children were Maude Mary (1864-) in Bunbury, Amanda (1870-), Kate Adellne (1874-) and Nelson Benedict (1876-1912). James was an American whaler. He corresponded about land in 1861 in Caple Hill. He was a farmer in Busselton from 1867 to 1877. James employed five ticket of leave men in 1866 and 1869 including a fencer and a splitter.
