WATSON, John James Frederick Augustus Hamilton Middleton Warburton Courtney

John died in Perth and was a Petty Officer R.N. He arrived 1st with Captain Fremantle in 1829. He arrived again on 14/03/1841 on the Sterling as a crew member. He married on 09/1843 to Mary Ann Joscelyn (23/09/1816-01/05/1892). She arrived in Australia on 14/03/1841 on the Stirling with infant Mary Ann J (later called Watson). John and Mary's children were Mary Ann Adams (stepdaughter) (1840-1917), Julia Ellen (1842-1928), Captain Charles Henry (1844-), John James (1846-1938), William Alfred (1848-1932). Frederick Augustus (1850-1931), Alice Agnes (1853-1936), Edwin Horace (1855-1940), Edith Rose (1858-1942) and Joseph (1862-1863). It is said that he had been discharged as Petty Officer R.N. in 1840. In 1842 he began daily sailboat service, cargo and passengers between Fremantle and Perth. He was the master of Albion on the Bunbury-Fremantle run 1848. Captain of the Speculator, the 1st steamer built on the colony, was launched on 13/10/1854 and qualified as a juror in 06/1860 for having a personal estate of £150.
