WILKES, John O

(1820-27/03/1901).

John was born in England and died in Perth. He was an ex-convict and the son of John, a jeweller. He arrived in Australia on 07/02/1853 on the Dudbrook. He married in the U.K., then remarried in Perth as a Roman Catholic to Catherine Conners (1836-21/03/1875) on 16/01/1861. Catherine was born in Tipperary and died in Albany. She was the daughter of John, a clerk. She arrived in Australia on 20/10/1859 on the West Australian. John and Catherine's children were Mary Ann (1861-), John (1864-), Amelia Catherine (1867-1959), William (1867-) and Alfred (1872-1932). He was a stonemason, working between Toodyay and Bunbury in 1853-1863, Albany in 1867. He was fined on 11/1886 for not registering the birth of his daughter at Bunbury, the 10th child. He was a Protestant, and his wife was Roman Catholic.
