Charles completed his sentence as a convict. He arrived on 14/07/1867 on the Norwood. He married Magdeline (Maud) (1834-07/10/1883) in the United Kingdom. Magdalene died in Bunbury and arrived in Western Australia on 29/01/1871 on the Strathmore from London to join Charles. Their children were Sydney (1861-), Charles (1863-) and Emily (1864-). Charles was an accountant in Bunbury in the 1870s. He established a rope factory in 08/1870 known as Messrs Utton & Co. He employed 14 ticket of leave men on occasions between 1870 and 1881. In 1875 he was the secretary and librarian of the Perth Mechanics Institute.
