DRAPER, James

James was born in England and died in Bunbury. He was the son of Robert and Jane. James arrived on 08/05/1830 on the James, with his parents. He married on 24/01/1850 in York to Mary Ann Edwards (14/12/1827-25/01/1903). Mary was born in England and died in York. She was the daughter of William and Eleanor. Their children were Charles (1852-1853), Eliza (1854-), Charles F. (1856-1936), Alfred William (1857-1937), James Robert (1859-), Thomas George (1860-), Eleanor (1862-1886), William John (1863-1863), William Haylen (John) (1864-), Emily Sinclair (1866- 1941) and Alice Jane (1868-1901). He was listed as a boatman at Fremantle in the 1837 census, with George Glyde and John Bateman. He moved to York in 1840 as a farmer and grazier. He employed six or more men in 1859 at “Westbourne” and “Yangedine”. He owned 80 acres in 1856, 40 acres in 1862, and 305 acres in 1868 with pastoral leases. He employed 47 ticket of leave men on occasions between 1864 and 1881. He retired to Bunbury. His religion was the Church of England.
