Edward was born in Co. Down, Ireland, as the son of Patrick and Elizabeth. He arrived around 1857 as an Enrolled Pensioner Guard. He got married on 01/03/1859 at Perth to Anne Mary Hackett (1838-16/09/1908). Anne was born in England, as the daughter of Thomas and Mary Ann. She arrived on 15/10/1841 on the Ganges. Their children were Edward Joseph (1860-1910) born in Guildford, Mary (1862-), Arthur (1867-), Sarah, Patrick Thomas (1871-1955) born in York, James (1872-), Peter James (1874-), Ann Elizabeth (1876-) and David Ernest (1879-). He was a Soldier in the 12th Regiment. He worked as a Convict Guard and Police Constable between 1866-2871 at Bunbury, East Perth, Guildford and York. His religion was Roman Catholic.
