MOORE, Newton James (Sir)

(17/05/1870-28/10/1936).

He was born in Bunbury and died in London. Newton was the son of James and Marie. He was married in 1898 to Isabella Lowrie. Isabella was the daughter of John. Their children were Cora (1899-1973), Christina Z. (1900-1963), Rodney (1905-) and Kollie (1908-). He was a Licensed surveyor, training under Alex Forrest while surveying Great Southern Railway and became a Government contract surveyor. Member and Mayor Bunbury Town Council. From 1904-1911 he was a member of the Legislative association for Bunbury. Minister for Lands 1905-1906 and Premier 1906-1909. Premier and Colonial Treasurer 1909-1910. He was Agent-General in London, awarded Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George (CMG) 1909 and awarded the most distinguished Order of St Michael and St George (KCMG) 1910, Commander in 18th Regiment Australian Light Horse 1901-1908 and later of Australian Intelligence Corps.
