He was born in Wales. John arrived on 18/03/1841 on the Parkfield indentured to M.W. Clifton. He was married on 29/08/1841 to Maria Laura Feast (1815/6-23/11/1856). Maria was a widow. She also arrived on 18/03/1841 on the Parkfield. Their children were Charles Llewellyn (1842-1902), Mary Ellen (1844-1929), Caroline (1847-1919), Laura Maria (1850-), Edith (1853-), Catherine, Mary Caroline (1856-) and Clara Edith. He was a carpenter and joiner by trade. He helped to build "Upton House" and the Barracks at Bunbury in 1848. He was the Licensee of Bunbury hotel 1849-1852 and again in 1856. He bought 4 Town Lots from 1850-56, the Licensee of Picton 1852-1856. He was the owner of a 43-ton vessel called Favourite.
