Treverton was born in Bunbury and died while at sea. He was the son of Robert John and Mary Ann. During 1863-4, he was a temporary clerk in the Convict Establishment. He went to Camden Harbour in the Kimberley district as a clerk with his father, the official administrator of the ill-fated settlement. In 1865 explored the King Leopold Ra region. He moved with the official party to Nickol Bay. He was returning south on the ship Emma, lost in a cyclone off the North West coast.
