MITCHELL, Charles Douglas

(20/07/1879- 19/02/1967).

He was born in Bunbury. He was the son of William Bedford and Caroline. Charles married 13/06/1905 as Northam Church of England to lda Rossiter (1874- 12/12/1954). Ida was born in England and died in Wickepin. She was the daughter of Edward and Marlan Ellen (maiden name Bodges). Their children were a son that died in infancy, Constance Joan (1907-). Nancy Caroline (1909-), Gertrude Kathleen (1912-), Phillip Rossiter (1916-1942) and Charles Rossiter (1919-). He served in the Boer War in the 2nd Contingent Mounted Infantry. He worked on family farms until he became a stock agent and butcher. In 1907 he was the Inspector for Agriculture, the Bank District Manager at Narrogin until 1935 when transferred to Northam, Geraldton in 1938, Kununnoppin in 1941 and finally back to Narrogin in 1943 until he retired in 1944. During his sojourn at Narrogin, he leased a 400 acre farm where his family lived, was involved in the establishment of Narrogin Club in 1913 and Greater Sports Grounds there as well as earlier at Northam. He was a member of the WA Club between 1929-1960. He was educated at Government School at Bunbury and High School at Perth between 1895-1896. He was a conservative. His religion was the Church of England.
