William was born in England and died in Bunbury. He arrived on 16/02/1861 on the Elisha Dunbar (an American baler). He was married on 24/07/1865 in Vasse to Caroline Horgan (19/01/1847-09/08/1918). Caroline died in Bunbury. She was the daughter of John and Maria Laura. Their children were James (1866-1951), Kate (1867-1960), William Bedford (1870-1926), Henry Arthur (1870-1940), Laura (1872-1872), Janet (1873-1873), Elinor(1874-1874), Mabel Edith (1875-), Amy (1877-1946), Charles Douglas (1879-1967), Nora (1880-1974), Rose (1882-1901), John Bedford (1884-1885), Winifred Marion (1886-1958) andThomas Bedford (1888-1944). He moved to Melbourne in 1856 and then to Ballarat. He visited England in 1860. During 1861-1869 he was manager of Prinsep's estates "Belvidere" and "Prinsep Park", he moved to Sunbury as land and stock agent in 1869, with residence at "The Willows". By 1890, he was a licensee of "Railway Hotel" in Donnybrook. He employed 18 ticket of leave men between 1863-1879. He visited India 1878. His religion was the Church of England.

In
