DALE, William (1837-15/03/1897). He died in Perth. William arrived on 06/04/1859 on the Hamilla Mitchell, with his wife Elizabeth Longley (1838-). Their children were Alfred, Anna Maria (1859-1892), Elizabeth Jane (1861-), Florence Edith Lima (1865-1926), Arthur Longley (1868-), Alice Maude (baptised 1870), Emma Blanche (baptised 1872), William George Burfoot (1874-), Hay Eveline (1876-), Henry Horace (1878-) and Gertrude (1885-). William was in Fremantle in 1860. He went to Bunbury and worked as a police constable from 1861 to 1865 and was also an emigrant officer. He bought Town Lots in 1864 and 1867. In Perth he was a police sergeant and local bailiff from 1865 to 1869. By 1873 William was incharge of the poorhouse and was a sympathetic officer with limited facilities. In 1875 he was a member of the Perth Horticultural Society and a prominent Freemason. In 1865 he nominated his sister-in-law Maria Murfoot who was 34 years old, from Kent and unmarried. He employed a  ticket of leave labourer in 1867. He lived at ‘The Cedars’ in Perth.


DAVIES, G. G. They arrived on 01/1846 on the Elizabeth with a party of Catholic Missionaries. They departed on 16/01/1876 on the Zephyr (in steerage) for London. He departed on 10/07/1876 on the Georgette to King George Sound. They arrived on 20/01/1880 on the Rob Roy from Bunbury. They departed on 03/11/1881 on the Macedon to Melbourne. 


DAVIES, Henry (1837-). He was an expiree. Henry arrived on 15/02/1863 on the Merchantman. He employed two ticket of leave men at Bunbury in 1869.


DAVIES/ DAVIS, James Gabriel (21/12/1854 - 05/08/1937). He was the son of William David and Mary Ann. James married on 27/07/1881 in Fremantle to Alice Sara Dellar (21/05/1860-). Alice was born in Bunbury, as the daughter of Nathan and Sarah who arrived on 06/04/1859 on the Hamilla Mitchell. Their children were Ada Gertrude (1882-1904), Ethel Sara (1886-) who was raised by Granny Adams at a convent from 5 to 17 years, and an unnamed son who was stillborn and the mother died during birth. He was employed in Perth as a police constable in the 1850s, until he was dismissed. He travelled to Rottnest from Fremantle as a boatman, and had fishing interests.


DAVIES, John. Davis or Davies employed five ticket of leave men between 1870-1875. Davies employed 1 ticket of leave man in 1868 in Bunbury. He was listed in Northam as a shoemaker in 1885 and in Canning as a fisherman between 1879-1885. In Toodyay he is listed as born in 1838 and died 03/12/1891. Mrs John drowned in the loss of Georgette on 01/12/1876. John. In Champion Bay died 15/03/1895 at 46 yrs. Listed in Northampton as a well sinker between 1884-1889. Listed in Northampton as a miner at "Badarra" between 1885-1889.


DAVIES, Maurice Coleman (1835-10/05/1913). He was born in London and died in Perth. Maurice was the son of John and Catherine. He arrived in 1875 from the Eastern colonies. He arrived 23/05/1877 on the Tanjore from the Eastern colonies and made many voyages interstate after. Married on 24/03/1858 in South Australia to Sarah Salom. Their children were Leana Judah (1859-), Thomas, Catherine Salena (1854-)(?1864), Herbert (1865-1915), WaIter David (1867-) nick named “Karri”, Arthur Louis (1869-), Miriam Florence (1872-), Philip Vivian (1874-) and Frank Benjamin (1875-1943). He was the part owner of “Star of the South '' with J. Moore of Bunbury, which was built in 1877 by J. D. Gibbs. He was a timber merchant from South Australia and applied for timber leases in  Bunbury in 1875. He employed sixteen ticket of leave men from 1876 to 1883 in Collie. He was a shareholder in Jarrahdale and Rockingham Timber Co. until 1878. He established Karridale in 1879. He was involved in the gold mining industry and was a shareholder in Western Australia Shipping Association in 1884. In 1881 helped form Kimberley Pastoral Co. and was managing director until 1913. HE owned "Liveringa Station", "Luluigin", "Balmaningarra" and "Napier Downs", as well as large holdings at Kojonup and Katanning.


DAVIS, Frederick (- 07/1885). He died in Bunbury. Frederick was married on 07/08/1869 at Bunbury to Mary Honan (1844-). Mary arrived on 05/08/1868 on the Palestine. He was a retail dealer in 1869 at Bunbury and employed eleven ticket of leave men at Australind from 1860-1877, including tqo cooks and a baker. He is listed as a baker from 1875 to 1885 but got his Confectioner's Licence in 1870. He signed a petition in 1877 regarding discrimination against expirees. 


DAVIS, J. R. He was employed in Bunbury as a water police constable between 1877 and 1881.


DAVIS, James. He employed in Fremantle at Mason's Station ten ticket of leave men between    1864 and 1869, three of which were sawyers. He was later listed as a farmer in 1877 and a grazier/ dairyman between 1874 and 1889. In Bunbury and Australind, he employed four ticket of leave men between 1868 and 1877, one of which was a sawyer and another a baker. In Kojonup, he employed a ticket of leave sawyer in 1872. In Busselton he employed a ticket of leave labourer in 1865. In Augusta, he was listed as a sawyer and millhand in 1889 as well as a hostler between 1888-1889.



DAWSON, Miss. She is listed in Bunbury as a teacher between 1868 and 1870. She is also listed in Blackwood as a dressmaker between 1879-1889.


DAWSON, William. He was formerly a Sapper in the 20th Royal Engineers. He qualified for ₤10 remission on a grant after his discharge in 1861. He also employed two ticket of leave men in 1865 and 1866 at Bunbury.


DEADMAN, William/ DEDMAN, John. He arrived on 21/05/1851 on the Mermaid as an Enrolled Pensioner Guard with his wife Harriet (-1905). Harriet died in Fremantle. She was the daughter of Joseph. She remarried on 31/03/1870 in Fremantle to Thomas Freeman. William and Harriet’s children were William H. (1856-1869) who drowned and George (1856-). William bought Bunbury Town Lots in 1859 and was assigned Lot P10 in 1866. He sailed to Singapore with sandalwood and horses on the Travancore on 17/10/1859


DEAN, Reuben (1813-29/06/1864). He died in Bunbury. He was a expiree meaning he had completed his convict sentence. He arrived on 28/06/1851 on the Pyrenees from England, with a wife and a child. He applied for land in 1854 in Wellington district and bought 110 acres between 1856-1864. He employed two ticket of leave men in 1862 and 1864 in Bunbury.


DEDMAN, George Joseph (28/10/1856- 24/05/1922). George was born in Bunbury and died in north Fremantle. He was the son of John and Harriet. He was married on 19/02/1880 to Sarah McCreery (02/02/1859-02/04/1929). Sarah was born and died in Fremantle. She was the daughter of Thomas. Their children were George Joseph (1880- 1961), Ethel May (1883-), William Henry (1883-1914), Catherine (1885-1961), Sarah (1887-), Margaret (1887-1969), Cecilia (1888 in York), Harriet Ann (1889-1890), Ernest John (1892-1948), Amy Blanche (1893-1943), Herman Thomas (1894-1916), Gordon Frederick (1896-1950), Rilda Plorence (1898-1977) and Marjorie Eileen (1901-1912). He was listed in York in 1888 and Beverley in 1889. He was an Inspector of Permanent Way WAGR for Bunbury and Great Southern. He subscribed to the Greenough flood relief fund.


DELANEY, Timothy (1825-02/1861). Timothy arrived on 26/12/1860 on the Escort, with wife and two children. He married Julia (1830-). Their children were Winifred (1856-), John B. (1939-). He was listed as a porter. His widow worked for Lady Richardson in Bunbury.


DELANEY, William. He was a Private of the 1/4th Regiment. William arrived on 13/07/1867 on the Norwood, as an Enrolled Pensioner Guards. He employed a ticket of leave woodcutter in 1868 at Bunbury.

DELAPORTE, Robert Thomas (23/01/1850-). He was born in Bunbury, as the son of John and Emma. Robert was married to Mary Love Lawrence (1852-06/10/1884). Mary was the daughter of James and Harriet. Their children were Maud Rarriet (1873-), Herbert Thomas (1874-1945), Aubrey George (1876-1958), Horace Robert (1878-1948). Eva Agnea Lila (1880-), Myra May (1881-1973), Suebert Alfred (1883-1948), Rose Alma (1885-1966), Ada Margaret (1887-), Ilma Louisa (1889-1968) and Huriel Eliza (1891-). He was listed as a farmer in Bunbury between 1875 and 1885.

Their children were Elizabeth (1845-), Mary Ann (1849-), Jane (1855-), James (1857-1928), Alice Sarah (1860-) born in Bunbury and John (1864-1935). He was listed as a labourer in Bunbury during the 1860s. He employed a ticket of leave man in 1863 in Bunbury, and another between 1875 and 1877 at Canning, where he was a dairy farmer. He suffered paralysis and eye trouble and was to receive poor relief in 1884 and a son gave him some financial aid.


DE PLEDGE, Thomas Frederick (24/08/1867-09/08/1954). Thomas was born in England and died in Perth. He was the fifth son of Joseph Price and Lucy. Thomas arrived around 1886 on the Australind from Singapore. He was married in 1906 to Marion Single. Their children were Kaude (1908-1976), Lucy who died at 6 or 7 years old, Patricia (1912- early 1960s) and Anne. He moved to Bunbury for nine months, then to "Minderoo Station'" in the northwest as a Jackaroo, then overseer around 1894, then on to "Stewart's Station” which he bought in 1898 after Stewart's death with other properties, all now known as "Yanrey”. He also had a Perth residence of “Cragmore” on Kings Park Road.


DEVONSHIRE, Charles. He arrived on 27/07/1850 on the Sophia as a migrant with brothers. He employed a ticket of leave man from 1855 to 1856 in Bunbury.

She arrived on 22/07/1850 on the Sophia. Their children were Elinor (1851-1928) who was born in Bunbury, Eliza (1854-1922) who was born in York and died in Busselton, Frederick William (1856-1859), Emma (1858- ) and George Edmund (1868- ) who was born in in Capel. William was a Private in the 96th Regiment and stationed at Rottnest in 1847. He was later discharged in 05/1849. By 1850 he was at Fremantle as a butcher, then moved to Perth and listed in the York Census of 1859 as a sawyer with two servants. He moved to Vasse as a farmer in the 1870s. He employed a ticket of leave man at Capel in 1866. His religion was the Church of England, his wife Wesleyan. Both were Literate.


DILLON, Richard (1830-). Richard was born in Ireland, as the son of Michael and Mary. Richard arrived on 27/07/1850 on the Sophia. He was married on 24/10/1851 in Perth to Mary Hertnan. Mary was the daughter of James and Anne. Their children were Thomas (1852-) who was born in Bunbury and Kevin. He later remarried on 09/05/1860 in Perth to Ann HcKinley. Ann was the daughter of Patrick. He was listed as a farmer and labourer in Bunbury between 1868-1872. Was also listed by Salvado in 05/1854 as Roman Catholic. He employed fice ticket of leave men between 1864 and 1872 at Dardanup.

DODD, Edward (1835-). He was an expiree meaning he had completed his convict sentence. Edward arrived on 21/11/1858 on the Edwin Fox. He married on 20/12/1876 to Emma Payne (1863-1951). Emma was born in Dongara and died in Fremantle. She was the daughter of Henry (alias John Williams ) and Frances. Their children were Charles (1884-) and Helena. He was listed as a schoolmaster, musician and jockey in Bunbury, Toodyay and Champion Bay. He was in Dongara as a farmer in West Australian from 1884 to 1889. DOWDEN, George Chandler (1841-08/11/1910). George died in Bunbury. He was the son of John. George married once, then remarried on 07/02/1889 in Irwin to Charlotte Matilda Blyth(e) (06/05/1846-20/05/1926). Charlotte was born in Australind and died in Bunbury. She was the daughter of James and Comfort who were from Mark Padbury. The children from the first marriage were Charles Walliam and Mary Jane. He was listed as a Dongara farmer, by 1880. In the Murchison, pastoralist at "Challa", Padbury. He moved to the southwest, farming at "Brooklands” in 1886.

DOYLE, John (1825-). John was the son of Darby. He arrived on 12/12/1863 on the Tartar, nominated by cousin Julia (1839-09/10/1865). John married on 24/11/1864 in Perth to Julia, his cousin. Julia died in Fremantle. She was the daughter of Kerne and Mary. She arrived on 25/05/1858 on the Emma Rugeola. She was Miss Wittenoom's servant at Perth, while John was a Police Constable in Fremantle in 1864. He moved to Champion Bay in 1865, then to Bunbury, Fremantle and Northam from 1866 to 1870.


DOYLE, John (1841-). He was an expiree meaning he had completed his convict sentence. John arrived on 22/12/1865 on the Vimeira. DRAKE-BROCKMAN, James Groves Birdwood (1833-14/11/1907). James was born in England, as the son of Henry John, nephew of William Locke. Jame arrived around 1872. He married on 07/11/1861 to Mary Ellza Stone (17/10/1842 - 25/09/1889). James remarried on 15/01/1891 in Bunbury to Sophia Louisa Clipton (23/08/1847-25/07/1910). Sophia died in Perth. She was the daughter of Rob. W. Their children were George Dudley, Alfred Howden and Ethel Harriet. James was listed as the 1st station master at Beverley in the Government Gazette between 1886 and 1890. He was also listed as a farmer at "Birdwood" woodlupine. His religion was the Church of England.


DRAPER, James (18/01/1825-02/03/1908). James was born in England and died in Bunbury. He was the son of Robert and Jane. James arrived on 08/05/1830 on the James, with his parents. He married on 24/01/1850 in York to Mary Ann Edwards (14/12/1827-25/01/1903). Mary was born in England and died in York. She was the daughter of William and Eleanor. Their children were Charles (1852-1853), Eliza (1854-), Charles F. He was listed as a boatman at Fremantle in the 1837 census, with George Glyde and John Bateman. He moved to York in 1840 as a farmer and grazier. He employed six or more men in 1859 at “Westbourne” and “Yangedine”. He owned 80 acres in 1856, 40 acres in 1862, and 305 acres in 1868 with pastoral leases. He employed 47 ticket of leave men on occasions between 1864 and 1881. He retired to Bunbury. His religion was the Church of England.


DUFFETH/ DUPFELL, James (1822-26/12/1845). James committed suicide. James arrived in 1841. He was a Private in the 51st Regiment Stationed at Bunbury.


DUNNE, Patrick (1825-). Patrick was born in Kings Co, Ireland. He arrived on 25/05/1858 on the  Emma, with his wife and one child. Patrick wsa married in the United Kingdom to Mary Costello (1827-). Their children were Anne (1856-1953), Mary (1858-), John (1861-), Rose and Kate. Patrick lived in Bunbury. In Australind, he worked as a small farmer. His children attended Parkfield School from 1868 to the 1870s. He was listed as a general dealer in 1874.


DUVAL, Henry James Burgess. Henry arrived on 13/07/1853 on the Marion, with his wife Mary Ann. Their children were Ann Tidswell (1857-), Julia Frederica (1858-) who was born in Bunbury, Edith (1863-) and Amy (1865-). Henry worked in Fremantle as the Deputy Superintendent at the Convict Estate in 11/1853, then as a Clerk in 1862 at the Fremantle Convict Department. In 1865 to 1867 he worked as a Superintendent for the Water Police, in 1867 in Fremantle on the Board of Education and in Fremantle in the Working Mens' Association. He left Western Australia on 14/02/1867 on the Bride, with his wife, six children and his servant. His religion was the Church of England.


DYER, Joseph (1829-). Joseph arrived on 29/04/1857 on the Tavancore with his wife Elizabeth (1834-). He was a warder in England, and appointed Sergeant of Police at York between 1857 and 1859. He moved to Geraldton between 1866 and 1868, then in Bunbury in 1869. He employed a ticket of leave servant at Bunbury in 1869. He travelled with his wife to England on 16/01/1876 on the Zephyr.
